INTRODUCTION TO THE CENTER FOR HUMAN IDENTIFICATION
The center for Human identification includes divisions dedicated to forensics, parentage and relationships, and disease research. This introduction to CHI and the Federal Missing Persons Program explains the processes involved in identifying unknown human remains.
This course covers the referral of a case to the CHI including the transportation of the unknown remains, how the remains are processed, and what occurs during analysis. We will also go into the the processes involved in establishing the identity of the subject and the cause of death. We also explain how DNA profiles are then obtained, input into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), and searched for matches with known crimes.
